Light in the Valley

I am a third generation photographer who has a passion for capturing one’s authentic self. I love the unscripted moments of life that we can hold onto through photography.

I began studying photography at The American School of Surrey, in the UK in 1992 and pursued it all throughout high school. I  then studied Photo journalism at the American College of London. I have a passion for traveling, writing and meeting new people. These passions made for the perfect heart to reach people through photography, because I believe your sessions should always tell a story.

After graduating I worked for Lifetouch Studios where I learned how to apply my skills to a good business model.

As I was seeking a new name for my business, God clearly gave me the name, “Light in the Valley.” I knew that this was so much more than a photography business, that it was also my ministry.

I am obsessed with what is found in the valley; the Prince of Peace when you are walking through Death Valley. Hope, when you are walking through the Valley of Heart Break, and life when you are in the Valley of Dry Bones. Hard things produce new beauty. LIGHT is found in the valleys, and I always search for light.

The ministry side of my business:

Light in the Valley offers “Blessing Sessions” which are free and discounted shoots to those who are highlighted to have a need. Blessing Sessions have included vets, people battling life changing diagnoses and single parents.

Nearly 50% of all proceeds go towards missions trips to spread hope and love to different countries.

I have also seen so many miracles in my studio that I have had to start a "miracles in the studio " journal. It has been so beautiful.

Many of my clients have asked me why I don't charge the same amount as other photographers; it’s for two reasons, the first is that I believe everyone deserves beautiful photography at affordable prices, and the second is that I work with natural light so there’s less time spent in editing. This means that I have a one week turn around for your sessions and that you get next day sneak peeks.

All sessions include ALL of your images edited and released to you via Dropbox.

$5 Add on for CD’s.

Whether shooting in my Elk River, MN studio, or on site for your casual photo shoot or formal photos of your special day, I  endeavor to give you the best possible experience. Consultations are always free of charge, and I do my very best to ensure your complete satisfaction.

No matter what kind of photos you desire, I seem to have a special knack of getting newborns to smile, pets to pose, and children to cooperate. As a mom to 4 boys and a pet lover and owner, I have found ways to create a calming, relaxing and fun atmosphere for my photo shoots.
